What Happened to Draco Malfoy After Harry Potter?
Draco survived Voldemort’s downfall, started a family and began to question the beliefs he grew up with. His life after Hogwarts was not without heartbreak.

Where did Draco Malfoy end up?
Draco Malfoy lived through the Battle of Hogwarts and went on to marry Astoria Greengrass. They had one son, Scorpius. Draco no longer embraced all the pure-blood beliefs taught by his parents, though his old rivalry with Harry never became a close friendship.
That is only part of the story. Deathly Hallows shows Draco as a father in its nineteen-years-later epilogue. J.K. Rowling later wrote about his outlook and interests, while Harry Potter and the Cursed Child explores his family life in more detail. This article contains spoilers for the play.
What happened after the Battle of Hogwarts?
Harry and Ron saved Draco from the burning Room of Requirement during the final battle in 1998. Voldemort was defeated, and the Malfoy family survived. J.K. Rowling has written that Lucius avoided prison by giving evidence against other Death Eaters.
For Draco, the bigger change was personal. His experience under Voldemort had exposed the danger and cruelty of his family’s ambitions. He remained close to his parents but stopped accepting their views unquestioningly.

His family’s pursuit of status under Voldemort ends in failure.

They raise their son without teaching him that Muggle-borns are inferior.

Draco appears with his family at King’s Cross in the Deathly Hallows epilogue.
Loss changes the family again
Astoria’s death leaves Draco and Scorpius struggling to understand each other’s grief.
Who did Draco Malfoy marry?
Draco married Astoria Greengrass, the younger sister of his former Slytherin classmate Daphne. Although Astoria came from another wealthy pure-blood family, she rejected the idea that magical blood made some people better than others. That caused friction with Draco’s parents.
The couple had one child, Scorpius Malfoy. Unlike the Draco we knew at Hogwarts, Scorpius was a kind, bookish boy. His friendship with Harry’s son Albus became an important part of The Cursed Child.
A new generation of Malfoys, with different values from Draco’s childhood.
Did Draco Malfoy become a better person?
He changed, but not overnight. Draco never turned into Harry’s best friend or a flawless hero. He did, however, become less committed to the prejudices he had once repeated so confidently.
Family status came first
He bullied classmates, boasted about his pure-blood background and tried to earn Voldemort’s approval.
His son’s future mattered more
He raised Scorpius with Astoria’s more tolerant beliefs and eventually learned to ask Harry for help when his son needed it.
The change is explained in the official comparison of young and adult Draco. It does not excuse his earlier behaviour, but it shows that he did not simply become another Lucius Malfoy.
What happened to Draco in The Cursed Child?
Draco’s most difficult years come after Hogwarts. Astoria suffers from an inherited blood curse and eventually dies, leaving Draco to raise Scorpius alone. Their grief makes it hard for them to talk to each other.
Scorpius also faces a cruel rumour that he is secretly Voldemort’s son. It is false, but it adds to the boy’s isolation. When Scorpius becomes close friends with Albus Potter, Draco initially struggles with the connection between their families.
They reach an uneasy understanding and work together when their children are in danger. There is still history between them, but they are no longer enemies fighting on opposite sides of a war.
What did Draco Malfoy do for a living?
No ordinary job is established for Draco in the original novels. In her additional writing about Draco, J.K. Rowling pictured him living on family wealth at Malfoy Manor, without needing paid work.
She also imagined him collecting Dark artefacts that he kept on display rather than using, and studying alchemical manuscripts. These are Rowling’s descriptions of how she envisioned his later life, not evidence that he worked as an Auror or joined the Ministry.

In short
Draco survived the war and became a husband and father. He did not erase his past, but he broke with some of his family’s worst beliefs. His later story is less about rivalry with Harry and more about trying to be there for Scorpius after losing Astoria.
