While the price keeps creeping up, the ad-supported tier has become a genuine option for me to save money without sacrificing things to watch.

AMAZON PRIME VIDEO REVIEW
Since I pay for Prime delivery anyway, having this library feels like a massive free bonus. It is my go-to for renting new cinema releases that aren't streaming anywhere else yet. I also love the X-Ray feature, which instantly tells me which actor is on screen so I don't have to reach for my phone to check IMDb mid-movie.

I treat this as my "boutique" subscription. You won't find thousands of hours of filler content here, but the hit rate for the shows they do produce is incredibly high. The picture quality and Dolby Atmos sound are consistently the best of any service I have tested, making it perfect for showing off a decent 4K TV setup.

Don't make the mistake of thinking this is just for cartoons. The 'Star' section is packed with gritty, adult-focused dramas and comedies that have made it one of my most-watched apps. Of course, having the entire Star Wars and Marvel back catalogue in 4K is great for a nostalgia trip, but the general entertainment library is what actually keeps me subscribed.

For pure prestige drama, I think this is unrivalled. Having access to House Of The Dragon, The Sopranos, The Wire, and Succession all in one place makes it a heavy hitter for serious TV fans. The recent addition of Discovery's reality content was a bit jarring at first, but I admit it is nice to have some "switch your brain off" options in the same app.

If you follow the Yellowstone universe or love Star Trek, this service is pretty much non-negotiable. Beyond the big franchises, I've found the movie selection to be unexpectedly solid, often having films I couldn't find elsewhere. The app can be a bit sluggish compared to Netflix, but they offer enough discount codes that I rarely mind paying for it.

I view this as a necessary utility for watching HBO shows without signing a long-term contract. The flexibility to grab a pass for a month to binge a specific series is great. However, I still find it frustrating that I have to pay extra for the 'Boost' add-on just to get the same 1080p picture quality that comes standard almost everywhere else.
